Brechin
Tri-Golf Festival
As
part of the national junior golf programme, clubgolf, Angus
Council Sports Development Team hosted a Tri-Golf festival
at Brechin Leisure Centre.
A
continuation of the work carried out in the town’s
schools by local golf professional, Stephen Rennie, and
Active School Co-ordinator, Jo Whaite, the festival targeted
Primary 5 children from the schools in the Brechin High
School cluster. It attracted 120 children who took part
in a series of golf based drills and games.
Tri-Golf,
clubgolf’s introductory game, demonstrates how
golf can be delivered through fun-based activity sessions
to large groups of youngsters. It is
being delivered locally through a partnership involving
Angus Council Sports Development Team, Education Department,
Active Schools, SportTayside & Fife and local golf
professionals.
The
festival comprised 10 stations, giving the children the
opportunity to experience different aspects of the golf.
Nine
Brechin High School senior pupils, who are completing
the Junior Sports Leader Award, explained the activities
and provided coaching and guidance throughout the festival.
This
festival, its main emphasis on fair play, enjoyment and
safety, was the first of its kind in Angus and generated
a positive response from all involved.
