As the clubgolf programme continues
to develop across every area in Scotland, there are increasing
opportunities for Professional golfers to get involved with
Scotland’s National Junior
Golf Programme and we welcome the support of Pro’s. 1,264
qualified volunteers delivered coaching in 2009 and the number
of Professionals involved with the programme is increasing each
year.
The PGA is a key partner in clubgolf and leads on Coach Education.
As clubgolf develops in each area, the involvement of Professionals
becomes increasingly important. The clubgolf programme:
• creates paid coaching opportunities for Professionals
• provides a structured pathway, coaching resources and
support
• provides training for volunteer coaches
• offers materials to promote your coaching programmes
• helps you establish links to local schools currently
delivering ‘firstclubgolf’
introductory programmes
You can find out more about the overall programme and the player
pathway in the
clubgolf Programme section of the site.
Developing PGA professionals can deliver clubgolf Stage 1 coaching on attainment of their Level 1 qualification, and Stage
2 coaching as soon as they have qualified at Level 2. Find out more about opportunities for Assistant Professionals
on the clubgolf Stage 2 page.
Professionals qualified to Level 2 or higher can attend the
Stage 3 Orientation course for Pro’s, enabling them to deliver all stages of the clubgolf pathway up to Stage 3. You can download
an Information
Sheet and Application
Form for 2010 Orientation
courses from the right hand column of this page.
Important Contacts
The first port of call for any professional interested in starting
a clubgolf programme, or getting involved with existing local
clubgolf programmes, is to contact your clubgolf
Regional Manager.
For further information please contact Ron Wallace, PGA Coach
Education Manager, Scotland on ron.wallace@pga.org.uk or 01764

Some common misconceptions about clubgolf:
clubgolf coaching will only be delivered by volunteer golf coaches
with no involvement from PGA Professionals
The clubgolf programme works best
when both volunteers and PGA Pro’s are involved. As well as delivering coaching at Stages
2 and 3, clubgolf encourage Pro’s to support volunteer
coaches at their club and work with the PGA to develop coach
mentoring programmes.
PGA Professionals have to coach clubgolf sessions for little
or no fee
Absolutely not! We expect the clubgolf
coaching that Pro’s
deliver will generate income
and attract new customers. Your
clubgolf Regional Manager can demonstrate a pricing structure
that is viable cost for both the participating children and the
Pro. We can also provide examples of how this works at other
clubs.
Testimonials from PGA Professional involved in clubgolf:
“We’ve had a really good response here at Hayston
and the club has been supportive,” said one of the Club’s
PGA Pros, Peter Kerr, who leads the clubgolf programme supported
by two PGA Level 1 coaches. “I’ve got 53 kids in
my Stage 1 Year 1 classes. The kids love it and the parents are
100% behind it.”
